400Kw Gyrotron in India
India is taking another step in its fusion-energy program.
Scientists at the Institute for Plasma Research in Gandhinagar have commissioned a new 400 kW gyrotron, a system used to heat plasma inside the SST-1 tokamak.
The new gyrotron provides roughly twice the heating power of the previous system and gives researchers greater ability to study and control plasma.
Why does that matter?
Fusion isn't only about reaching extreme temperatures. Researchers also need to understand how to create, heat and maintain stable plasma
